The search giant is updating Search by integrating its “Multitask Unified Model,” or MUM for short, into results. MUM is multimodal, meaning it can analyze information between text and images, while also translating information from over 75 different languages and having a deeper understanding of the world and how multiple subjects might be compared to one another.
The end result is an easier, more convenient search experience for users, as Google says MUM can generate higher quality search results in one single search. The company says it will make these improvements in the coming weeks. “People in personal crises search in all kinds of ways, and it’s not always obvious to us that they’re in need,” Pandu Nayak, Google’s Fellow and Vice President for Search, wrote in the blog post."If we can’t accurately recognize that, we can’t code our systems to show the most helpful search results. That's why using machine learning to understand language is so important?”
Google will also use MUM to improve the quality of spam protections and expand to other languages where the company may have limited training data. It is also using AI to improve search results for vulnerable groups, like children, who may be sensitive to certain content delivered by the search engine. Google said its BERT tools has reduced unexpected shocking results by 30%.
Hm, how do they decipher from the needy to the one who is finding help? how do they know it is a child? All deciphering through the NLP domain? Is'nt there a grave dnger in mis-tagging someone? If u can pl let us knw,how they are dealing with the -ve outcomes due to the soltn?
