The new model will likely replace OpenAI’s leading foundational model, GPT-4, and power generative AI tools like image generators,OpenAI said it has created a new committee to evaluate any risks posed by the new technology, which will be jointly led by CEO and cofounder Sam Altman, as well as three company board members: chair Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo and Nicole Seligman.
Six of OpenAI’s technical and policy experts — Aleksander Madry , Lilian Weng , John Schulman , Matt Knight , and Jakub Pachocki — will also be on the committee and the company said it will “retain and consult with other safety, security and technical experts” to support the work. The committee’s first task will be to review and develop the company’s processes and safeguards over the next 90 days, after which it will share recommendations with the full board.
