Just a day before a US judge was set to hear OpenAI's request for a dismissal, Elon Musk, the Tesla, SpaceX, and X CEO, decided to drop his lawsuit against the AI startup. Musk, who was also one of its founders, filed the lawsuit back in February this year, accusing the company's other founders, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, of violating its non-profit status. Prioritising profits over helping humanity with AI.
Musk left OpenAI back in 2015 due to the alleged disagreements, and currently runs his own AI startup, xAI. It is responsible for running Grok, a ChatGPT rival built into X, formerly Twitter. xAI also recently raised US$6 billion in funding from investors.It's interesting that Musk is dropping the lawsuit, given his recent and very vocal stance against Apple's decision to partner up with OpenAI, in order to drive the rollout of its self-styled Apple Intelligence.
At the time of writing, neither OpenAI nor Musk has provided any clear information as to why the latter has decided to drop the lawsuit.
