That’s how serious DeSoto coach Claude Mathis took his team’s championship game against Austin Anderson on Saturday at the Division I state 7-on-7 tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.
“I want them to understand how to fight. I’m always going to have their back,” Mathis said. “I want to show them I’m in this fight with them. I’m going to do my job. I’m not going to let the little things get us beat, and that’s what people don’t understand.before winning the title. This victory will help set the tone for the 11-man football season this fall, when DeSoto hopes to become a 3-peat UIL state champion. In 2022, DeSoto won both the state 7-on-7 title and the UIL 6A Division II title.
