Apple is rolling out a developer preview of iOS 27.3 that extends Siri AI’s capabilities to third-party applications. The update, announced Tuesday, allows developers to integrate features that let the voice assistant draw on personal context, process natural language prompts, and use on-screen awareness to complete requests across “all apps,” according to The Verge.
The update includes a new “app skills” feature that developers can use to combine several tasks into a single action. According to Apple’s developer documentation, users won’t need to mention an app’s name in their request when it’s in the foreground, during a Live Activity, or in an ongoing Siri AI conversation about the app. Apple gives the example of requesting a ride through a rideshare app and later saying “Hey Siri, change my ride pickup to a new address” without specifying the app name.
Apple is also bringing Siri AI’s expanded capabilities to its own apps, including Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts, and Weather. The company says users will be able to perform tasks like finding a coffee shop they visited last week or archiving files that haven’t been opened in over a year.
As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple previously made a smaller set of features available to third-party developers. The company says users can ask Siri AI what it can do in each app.
