Indonesia has launched its first university-based artificial intelligence center this week, marking a significant step in the country’s AI development efforts. According to the NVIDIA AI Blog, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, NVIDIA, and Universitas Gadjah Mada officially opened the UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC) in Yogyakarta.
The center represents a collaboration between government, telecommunications, technology, and academic sectors aimed at developing local AI talent in Indonesia. The initiative positions UGM as the first Indonesian university to host such a dedicated AI technology center in partnership with these industry leaders.
The establishment of the NVAITC reflects Indonesia’s broader strategy to take a more active role in shaping its artificial intelligence capabilities and workforce development. By bringing together public and private sector resources, the center is designed to provide educational and training opportunities for developing AI expertise within the country.
